The synthesizer-crazed duo met whilst training as double-decker bus drivers in Glasgow, learning only of each other's electronic music interests whilst passing under a low bridge at a terrifyingly high speed.
Starting off with some basic equipment and a laptop computer, Emotiquon gathered their ideas over long sessions in front of flashing lights and cult television comedy shows. Connecting their powerful brains together (using two metal collanders, a car battery, some jump leads and a food blender), the two began to edit their recordings down to manageable pop-sized chunks of audio colour.
Emotiquon pursue a love of hypnotic melodies, complex drum rhythms and rolling bass lines, scattering samples from their favourite television programs and films throughout their music:

James Mechanoid - Sonic Synthesizer Extortionist

REWIND QUESTIONS: (Answered by Shaun Dimensional of Emotiquon)
- Why have you chosen to do a cover of this song? Does this song bring back childhood memories?
Well, when we were asked to produce a cover of an 80's track for the Rewind project, we were really excited. We grew up in the 80's and the music from that decade obviously brings back a great bunch of memories. Choosing a track that we not only respected but could envision producing in our own style (without completely destroying the song) was a challenge indeed. There are so many great songs and bands from that era....
We narrowed down our options by deciding to stick with a British band, as the project features artists and producers from around the world. There were perhaps 4 main contenders in our minds. In the end, the Pet Shop Boys won it hands down!!! People have lots of different ideas about the Pet Shop Boys, such as "ooh, they're a gay band", or "they're too POP!", but if you think about everything they've done for British Pop Culture; their ironic and satirical lyrics, their fantastic stage performances, their iconic image (remember the huge pointy hats...?), and of course their skills behind the synths (and the fact that there are two of them onstage, kinda like us) then everybody has a soft spot for the Pet Shop Boys!
Choosing "Shopping" was an easy choice too, given the current economic climate in the UK we thought it was the most relevant track to release at this time! Listen to the lyrics... It's not about putting on your flip flops, grabbing a stupid massive bag and going shopping. It's about the government shopping for votes then changing their policies after they win... It's about political powers taking advantage of the people, mistrust and inside dealings... It's about the economy!
But besides all that, it's a f**king good pop song. And it brings back memories of watching Top Of The Pops in the 80's.
- If you were asked to do a tribute to the 00's in 20 year's time, what song would you choose?
Maximo Park "Our Velocity"... It's the best song I've heard since the year 2000!!!
- If you could choose, who would you like to do a version of one of your own songs?
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci doing a cover version of Emotiquon "Tokyo Bass Exchange"! Unfortunately that's not gonna happen though, as they've split up.
Awoke this morning to the sound of the letterbox at Emotiquon HQ clattering with an almighty racket...
After wolfing down some Coco Pops and two slices of wholemeal toast with Marmite & honey (mixed, you should try it!), a glass of grapefruit juice and half a pint of curry sauce, I threw on my large pair of techno clown trousers and shimmied down the stairs to investigate.
I was greeted with a large airpack jiffybag with the Emotiquon HQ address plastered over the front.
Up the stairs I went, clawing at the package and hoping that it wasn't an elaborate council tax letter. Inside I found another jiffybag, taped up with fluorescent orange "DAMAGE RISK" tape so that it was impossible to open delicately (I'll stick a pic up of this later today in this blog)...
Inside were two pristine Sony CD-R discs and a brief note with the words "Cheers, Rupert" written on the inside...
The penny dropped. The CDs contain all of the parts to Grand National's "Cut By The Brakes" track, from their excellent second album "A Drink & A Quick Decision"... Rupert is the man behind Grand National's production...
We're itching to get started on it. It's been an extremely busy June for us, with gigs every weekend and more remixes than you can shake an electron at (including Espion, Satellite Dub, Modifier, a brand new (EXCLUSIVE) track for the next Tronic Vol. II compilation, and a cover of The Pet Shop Boys "SHOPPING")
